TuxTxt is a teletext viewer for the DBOX2/Dreambox platform. The software was originally created by Thomas Loewe (LazyT), and development is currently continued by Roland Meier and DBLuelle. At this time, TuxTxt supports teletext Level 2.5 graphics, cachable (hex)pages, favorites, multiple codepages and TOP/FLOF navigation.

LATEST VERSION

The latest version of TuxTxt is 1.99 and was released on 7 Oct 2006. There are now no more "forgotten" pages when using delayed subtitles and the correct language settings for TOP/FLOF are implemented.

TuxTxt can be installed as a plugin by extracting the ZIP file and by putting tuxtxt.so and tuxtxt.cfg in /var/tuxbox/plugins and all the other files in in /var/tuxtxt. Please don't forget to CHMOD 755 both tuxtxt.cfg and tuxtxt.so!

Dreambox 7020 users have to copy tuxtxt.so and tuxtxt.cfg to /usr/lib/tuxbox/plugins/ and all the other files to /usr/tuxtxt/. Also, add ln -s /usr/tuxtxt /var/ to the startup script which can be found in /etc/init.d/tuxbox-links.sh. Last but not least, create a directory called /etc/tuxbox/config/.

    * If you already have the tuxtxt-caching feature installed in your image (should be in most images build in July 2005 or later), you should use the version in /cache, otherwise use the one from /nocache.

  • WINDOWS CLIENT

If you want to read teletext on your Windows PC, you can use a small utility called 'TTCLIENT'.

This software is developed by LazyT, the original author of TuxTxt. It offers comparable features, but it's not a port of TuxTxt. This client uses the streampes/streamsec from the Tuxbox project to display the current teletext streams you've tuned into on your satellite receiver. For support, consult the Dream Multimedia board or the TuxBox board at TuxBox.Org.

  • download TTCLIENT version 0.4i

  • If you want to discuss TuxTxt, you can post your message on two boards: the TuxTxt board at Dream Multimedia or the TuxBox board at TuxBox.Org.

If you want TuxTxt to be a part of your operating system image and also enable background page caching, you have to compile your own image using the CVS sourcecode. The source code of TuxTxt can be found here.
